A Midweek Midtown Mood - Apr. 9th
I couldn't think of another Mid- word to add to the title that was catchy. Any thoughts?
Good morning Raleigh! Ever feel like it’s a Monday on Wednesday? That’s how it goes sometimes. I think I am gonna blame the weather this time.
Anyway, let’s jump right in today as we start to look forward to the weekend!

If you know, you know.
• Carolina Ale House on Glenwood South, a staple of downtown sports bars is closing officially as a potential ping-pong bar called “Smash” plans to take it;s place. No timeline has been set yet but the building is still owned by LM Restaurants.
• Raleigh ranks #3 on happiest cities in the US, covering household income, quality of life, & more — check out the full breakdown here.

• Happy & Hale’s pop-up downtown is officially open, complete with Pickle-ball courts, & dog park. Located right near Smoky Hollow for downtown resident easy access.
• Sip N’ Shop (the Village District version of Sip N’ Stroll) launches today at 11am. You can now walk around with a labeled drink (from vendors nearby) to participating stores. Check out this map below for where you can and can’t go.

• After complaints and harassment concerns, NC lawmakers move to ban “prop bets” (a bet on a single players performance) for college sports after ads played during the NCAA tournament urging fans to leave the players alone — More here.
• CAM Raleigh will be CLOSED for exhibitions throughout the month of April, they will return with their newest exhibition, “Look to the West” featuring the art of Western North Carolina artists, on May 1st.

• Chamber Music Raleigh hosts multiple concerts and educational series and they JUST released their 2024 series of shows for free on their website — check out the full list of strings, pianos, quartets, and more here.
• Record Store Day is almost here! Support local indie record shops to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store with deals, events, & more. Check out your local store or find a participating one here.

Local sports teams scores and updates.
• NCSU: Baseball wins out over ECU last night, their next game is Friday at home against Louisville. Softball will take on Clemson as well on the same day.
• Hurricanes: The Hurricanes continue their losing streak (after making the playoffs already). The Canes play the Capitals again Thursday after a win against them last week.
• March Madness: Florida just beat out Houston 65-63 to win the National Championship, Duke was rated #3 in the post-season AP rankings poll.

Raleigh is cool but so are our neighbors.
• Charlotte will host 4 matches of FIFA’s new Club World Cup tournament in June of this year. Prize money for the event is $1 billion + a Trophy. — More here.
• Saturdays in Saxapahaw announced their 20th anniversary show for May 3rd, grab tickets and see more about the lineup below.
