Newsletter Updates, Markets, & More! - May 28th

A rainy mix can't stop us! Check out today's inbox for some newsletter changes, event announcements, markets, music, & much more.

Good Morning Raleigh, Happy Wednesday! Glad to be back.

Hope you were able to celebrate, commemorate, and rest if you got the long weekend on Monday. But first, housekeeping:

As a couple of you have noticed the inbox is getting some updates!

In short, we are getting a fresh coat of paint come June, just in time for the summer season. These updates were made based on community surveys and polls across the last 3 months (spring) and a new design theme will be here next week.

Psst. While the theme this time was decided by my friends and I, the future ones will be up for community vote, so keep an eye out for any polls coming your way.

Alright, let’s get into the week!

If you know, you know.

• Raleigh Wide Open has announced their 6 downtown stage acts for the October 3rd weekend (main acts at Red Hat still to be announced). Check out the graphic below for a full list of all the bands coming to this event:

• The Midweek Market is back! Instead of waiting for the weekend, stop by Moore Square today from 4-7PM for fresh produce, handmade goods, vendors, & more. This event will be every Wednesday through October 22nd — details here.

• Simply Crepes over off Oberlin Road near the Village District opened TODAY at 8AM, if you’re trying to stop by today for their Grand Opening they do encourage reservations.

• Every first Sunday check out the Pop Shop alternative market at Chapel of Bones Coffee. Grab a bloodthirsTEA (yup, that’s a real drink on their menu) while you’re there shopping, detail and vendors below:

Local featured artists, in any medium.

This weeks artist is responsible for last weeks Protect Our Parks poster. Pencils & Purpose has been donating her time to make complimentary art for needed events around town, so I thought I would give her a little shout.

She also has a threadless store linked at her Instagram page down below if any of the designs are speaking to you:

Local sports teams scores and updates.

• Hurricanes: They might be down 3-1 in the series but they have finally broken their curse after losing 15 straight in this round of the playoffs. Their win Monday night in Round 3 was the first since… checks notes, 2006.

They look to continue with a second win back on home ice tonight as they face elimination once again. Snag a ticket if you can and help the boys out against the Florida Panthers. First to 4 wins heads to the NHL Stanley Cup finals. Go Canes!

• NC FC: The next FC match is on May 31st against Richmond away at City Stadium.

• NC Courage: The Courage fell 2-5 this past weekend in San Diego, they look to regroup and take on the Washington Spirit on June 8th in DC.

• Mudcats Baseball: The Carolina Mudcats take on the Salem Red Sox at home tonight and through the weekend at Five County Stadium, with Friday night being host to their fireworks display. Just a note, this is their last season before relocating to Wilson, so check ‘em out while you can — calendar here.
