Happy Wednesday Raleigh! How we doing today? Personally, I think this humidity could take a few days off.

Anyway, a few quick updates to start:

• We’ve updated our events calendar, this time with a new look over at calendar.theraleighwoodinbox.com! Details on how to use it on that page as well.

• While Summer isn’t over, we will be saying goodbye to the Summer Store as it sunsets in just two weeks. If you want some summer gear and haven’t had a chance, grab it now as August is when we revamp our designs for the Fall, which go live in September.

• THE SUNFLOWERS ARE HERE! After the weather the last few days, the blooms have come out full force for this yearly tradition at Dix Park. Expect them to be in peak season for the next 2 weeks only as thousands come out and see the blooms:

• Jazz in the Square is back! Be there or be (Moore) Square, returns August 7th, 6PM.

• Need I say more? Vintage goods, tattoos, motorcycles. Le Dive has pulled out all the stops on this one, even the street will close down, don’t miss it — bizaare bazaar.

• The Groovy Hippie Fest market, hosted by Pomona Pop-Ups comes to Raleigh August 17th! This looks like a one-time hippy themed event, complete with VW Bugs to fit the vibe — check it out.

• Band on the Roof has announced a new show! This cozy secret backyard show with Spencer Thomas and Rod Smoth will take place somewhere in Five Points on September 20th. Music at 7PM — BYOB, and a chair if you want, vibes for sure.

Wednesday - 16th

• Looking for Peaches? Apparently we have a pop-up peach vendor! They have locations for Georgia Peaches around Raleigh, the next being at 4:30PM today — peaches.

Raleigh Brewing Run/Walk Club starts at 6:30pm today and every week — run or walk.

• Pour House 🎸 Desmond Jones, Taylor Scott, + More! [jam band] | 8PM - $17

Thursday - 17th

• The Run Clubs have really been taking off around town and Pony Run has added itself to the list, 3 and 5 mile routes on their site, every Thursday at 6PM — maps here.

• Five Points Comedy Night is back, join hosts Matt White & Tyler Wood as they showcase some of the best local and headlining comics around — 7PM at the Rialto.

• Cannonball Music Hall has more tunes for you Thursday, this time with some soul, funk, blues vibes from J.Vo and Co — 7PM for your chance to see them.

• Flying Saucer Marvel Trivia and Fantastic Four flights! Dress up in costume for extra points. Win prizes, movie tickets, enter a raffle, and have a dang good time — info.

• BOGO BRICKS, or at least Lego bricks (sorry, brickmasons). BAM Downtown on Fayetteville Street has buy one, get one bags of bulk Legos’s — build em here.

• Partnering with Quail Ridge books, the Raleigh Brewing Book Fair takes place from 1-6PM Saturday, featured curated books, literary themed goods, live music, and more.

• Looking for an twilight market instead to maybe beat the heat? Well the Raleigh Twilight Market has you covered, 5:30-9:30 at Smoky Hollow — every 3rd Saturday.

Sunday - 20th

• The Raleigh Foodie Fare, showcasing the diverse food scene of Raleigh, takes place at 11AM this Sunday — enjoy music and good eats:

Artist of The Week - Sean Kernick

Sean is a spray pain muralist and illustrator based in Raleigh, NC. He has done work for Koka Booth, the Village District, North Hills, NC State, and many more.

Show of The Week Year

ON SALE NOW: Tickets for one of Raleigh’s biggest music festivals are live! Hopscotch takes place September 4-6th and has nearly 100 acts playing City Plaza, Moore Square, and all of the music venues downtown — tickets here before they sell out.

This is perhaps the largest local venue event Raleigh throws each year, don’t miss out!

Local Non-Profit News

• Not strictly a non-profit but more of an advocacy group for better public transit, ‘urbanrailsnc’ is looking for support to get lawmakers to focus back on light rail support for the area — check out their page and learn more.

• The Wake County Animal Shelter is pretty close to capacity at the moment, if you or a loved one might be interested in adopting contact them on their site — cute pets.

• I’m a sucker for a good Nalgene and having lost my most recent one (we don’t talk about how the dishwasher ate it), I had to jump on this limited design. Scroll to the bottom of this page to support a good cause and get a cool bottle — page here.

Openings & Builds

• It’s been teased a lot but The Newsagents Shop (a book, music, coffee, comics, third place) is under construction, Silver Lake Construction seems to have the gig — see the start of the project here.

• This past weekend Unlikely Professionals had a soft opening, with full bar, in the North Hills Innovation District — stay tuned for their grand opening.

City Council & Civics

• GoTriangle starts their first ever 15-minute bus service in August! Routes 400 and 405 traveling between Durham and Chapel Hill to start with, hopefully more to come — info.

Sports News

• The NC FC just barely lost out last week to Birmingham 3-2, they play again this Friday at 7:30PM against Indy Eleven here at home in WakeMed Soccer Park — tickets.
