Happy “halfway through the work week” day, you guys showed up last time in the polls.

We got some great feedback for the next seasonal theme, Instagram preferred the College Game Day while email readers vastly preferred the NC Autumn Harvest.

With that info and some of the suggestions left in the comments, the plan will be this:

• General Theme for Emails/Merch: NC Autumn Harvest!

• Limited Time Designs: (TBA later) College Game Day Vintage & Old Time Music.

• Fundraising: A portion of ALL proceeds from store sales & premium memberships will go to supporting Western NC Recovery, for the duration of the season. We are still working on which non-profit exactly but it will be announced in September.

Artist of The Week - Rick Gardner @ Binky and Bell

Binky and Bell is run by local artist, Rick Gardner, who creates Cartoon Dog and Cat Art and combines it with his skills in fundraising, to help support homeless pets.

Area partners include Cause for Paws, SPCA, Saving Grace, and many other local organizations. Support for them comes from sales on their multiple coloring books, joke book, and numerous other projects displayed on their Instagram and website (a few seen below).

• Stay & Play Giveaway! Hopscotch Music Festival (September 4-6th) is doing a pretty sweet giveaway. Music passes, canes tickets, swag bags, and more but it ENDS TOMORROW — visit here for a free entry:

• The end of summer block party, a free music and arts festival, takes place August 20th from 1-11PM at Gipson Play Plaza, see the official stage lineup here & below:

— Wednesday 13th —

• Stargazing at the Willard Rooftop returns at 8PM tonight! Take a look through telescopes and learn a few fun facts about the solar system from the experienced people in the Raleigh Astronomy Club — celestial vibes here.

— Thursday 14th —

• Gigantic Beasts & How to Find Them is a lecture series event at NCMNS hosted by UC Santa Cruz professor Dr. Ari Friedlaender who has more than two decades of studying whales in Antarctica, starts at 5PM — learn more here.

• Potter Painting Pop-Up, a workshop for all ages takes place at 6:30PM at Incendiary Brewing on Morgan Street. Ticket includes all supplies needed — get creative.

— Friday 15th —

• From 6-7PM, check out the Cactus Garden Terrarium Workshop with Urban Pothos over in the Iron Works district. Note, they recently closed their Peace Street location to focus on this one, so check them out if you haven’t already — details.

• The Pepsi 160 NASCAR Regional is this Friday, 7PM at Wake Co. Speedway — tickets.

• NCMA + Anime, in this case the movie “Promare”, hit the big screen at 8PM. Combine it with a themed dinner beforehand for the perfect date night — dinner and movie info.

• Not into anime? The NCMNS also has The Mummy (1999) playing at 7PM combined with a speaker who has a PhD in Egyptology and Nubiology — details.

• Playing Friday at 11:30PM (and Saturday at 8:30), join The Rialto Theatre for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, 50th Anniversary viewing — cult classic tickets here.

• The Carolina Fall Boat Show & Sale is back! One of the longest running events in the state, check out 40+ manufactures of boat as vendors close out 2025 — all weekend.

• Charley’s K-9 Rescue, a bullly breed-specific shelter, has an adoption event at Wolfe & Porter over on W. Morgan Street at 2PM — more info here & below:

• Starting at 12PM, the 12th Annual CaribMask Carnival returns to Downtown Raleigh. hosted by Raleigh-Durham AfroCaribbean Association, the event has parades, food, music, and much more — Instagram here.

• The Portal Pop-Up Series market starts 12PM at The Portal HQ! Look for creative works and up-cycled art until 5PM — details here and below:

• The NC Courage look to take on the Portland Thorns at home after falling 2-1 against Houston last week, game starts at 7:30PM over at WakeMed Soccer Park — details.

• Feeling Groovy? The All Thing Groovy Hippie Festival takes place in Moore Square at 12-5PM. Vintage Car Show, live jams, face painting, and small business — good vibes.

• Peach Day! Starting at 12PM join Trophy Brewing for a menu that celebrates all things peach. There will be live music, local artists, and family activities as well — peachy.

• It’s patio season and Wilco has upped their back bar to celebrate! Check out this new patio spot in Oakwood over here on their Instagram — video of the space here.
